Hi All,
A few weeks back iDome came up on this list - a link was given to the work of Paul Bourke at UWA. For those interested, Paul is presenting this afternoon on Stereoscopic 3D Technology. Details are below.
You are welcome to come as a late RSVP.
Regards,
Valerie.
============
You are invited to attend the seminar ‘Stereoscopic 3D technology: history, principles, and limitations’, presented by Paul Bourke, Associate DIrector and visualisation expert at iVEC. Paul will present an overview of 3D stereo technology and address the publicity on its potential dangers.
Abstract:
In the light of the current commoditisation of stereoscopic capture and 3D displays it is interesting to reflect on its long and rich history, dating back even to the very earliest days of photography. This presentation will outline the history of stereoscopic 3D technology from the early days of stereoscopic photography, the era of anaglyphic movies, the development of stereoscopy for visualisation and virtual environments, and finally the current plethora of 3D ready televisions.
The fundamental theory behind stereoscopic capture, generation, and presentation will be covered for the mainstream technologies and some future possibilities will be discussed. Finally, given the increased exposure of the general population to stereoscopic viewing in the home, there will be a discussion around some of the limitations and possible dangers of the technology.
Date/time: 24th November 4-6pm (talk till 5-ish, refreshments till 5:30pm)
Venue: ARRC Auditorium, ARRC building, 26 Dick Perry Ave. Kensington.
Free event - please rsvp for catering purposes to rsvp at ivec.org
This is a joint event between the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Society for the Social Implications of Technology and iVEC.
