[PIGMI] Reminder: ScreenWest Strategic Planning Workshop this Friday

Yes. Many things. :P

Here are my quick notes:

- It was good to meet people in the local film and television industry
- New media (online, transmedia inc. games) are where things are headed
- Some members of traditional media want to keep things the same
- Others want to widen the definition of "screen content"
- ScreenWest has yet to characterise how it will support new media
- With X|Media|Lab, ScreenWest has shown initiative in this area
- There were some great speakers with a lot of insight into the industry

Personally, I feel that audiences are changing (increasingly online and
multi-platform - video, web, forums, games, etc.) and products need to
change as well.

Matt Campbell (Director Television and Online Content at SBS) noted that
audiences want their content "anywhere, anytime" and that SBS now plans
all forms of content from the start of production (rather than, say,
television first and online later).

With that in mind, I think that it's vital for local television and film
practitioners to work alongside web and game developers in order to
deliver complete and competitive products.

Let's Make Games will be meeting with ScreenWest next Friday in order to
give a brief presentation on the games industry and the local community.
I feel that there is a huge opportunity for us to work together to grow
the local industry, and I hope that they feel the same. :)

Quite a few (~8) games people where there, so they may have different
points to share here. ;)
