Concept Outline: Heritage Resource AppTuesday, 5 July 2011
Basic Concept: The purpose of this app is to provide a server based
search app that provides users with a list of sites within a selected
search area. These will be selected from a list of environmental,
cultural or historical heritage sites as defined by the user within a
user-determined search radius from the location of the phone.
Function Outline: When the user activates the app, the phone reports its
gps location to the server, along with the selected search criteria. The
server plots the phone on a virtual map and checks for gps site tags
within the selected radius, filtering as appropriate. Data packets
attached to these tags are then returned to the users' phone.
Categories:The app will have three distinct categories with a selection
of sub-categories within each. Search options should include a variable
distance selection ranging from 1 km out to 100 km, with a number of
units in between.
Environmental: Programs, Sites, Tours
Cultural: Local Societies, Galleries, ?
Historical: Museums, Sites, Trails
Data Packets:Data packets will contain an image of the site, a small
descriptive passage, a street address and a link to a web-site where
appropriate. Packets will be tagged and indexed by gps location.
Business Model: Commercial Operators: Pay an annual fee per data packet
registered.
Not-for-Profit Operators: Allocated a number of free data packets plus
an option to purchase more at a reduced rate.
Users: Pay a single fee to download the app.
