That's an interesting (and sad) story, Andrew.
Avril, depeding on what your looking to get out of an organisation, the GDAA
(http://gdaa.com.au/) might be worth considering. They helped me a lot at
GDC recently.

Hi Avril,
AIMIA was actually founded in WA, in the very early 1990s, and I was on the
WA committee for 3 or 4 years in the mid 1990s. It operated very effectively
as a user-group that introduced a lot of people to a lot of people in the
very early days - this is before the internet came along.
Once it became nationalised, it was restructured by the sydney-melbourne
axis into a corporate -government lobby group, and lost it's interest in
user-group activities, and appointed a whole series of very well paid
CEOs...who only came the WA to tell us how important it was for us to pay
the membership fees, so that we could get nothing back.
So AIMIA kid of lost it's momentum in WA.
I hope this helps!
Andrew

Just wondering if anyone has had anything to do with the Australian
Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA)? (www.aimia.com.au
<http://www.aimia.com.au> )
Came across them this morning and was interested to see they specifically
cover games among other interactive media forms.
Tempted to join but the fees are quite high (for individual membership) and
I'm not sure they do all that much in WA.
Could be worth pursuing as a potential alliance/sponsorship opportunity by
LMG however?
Cheers,
Avril.
