[PIGMI] From Concept to Pitch workshop next Friday

If I had cash to throw at this idea, I would throw so much cash at it!

What I'd really like to see is that, if we did an event like this, that it
could be livestreamed to people that CANNOT make it. That would be
absolutely amazing, because then the people that cannot make it can still
take something away from it.

A teleconference would be fantastic, but I'd imagine it would be limiting.
It'd be pretty easy to get something like a Ventrilo server up and running
to do that sort of thing on. Hell, I think an official LMG Ventrilo would be
fantastic for people to just be able to hop in and out and just chat
whenever they are idle at their computers. But that's me going off on a
random tangent here.

Cheers,

So Nick, is there any way one can 'participate' in the workshop without
actually being in the country? Or being available at the actual time?

Also rather amused by the resort idea, Chris and I have been discussing
organising something smaller and similar over a weekend at a particular
joint just outside Margaret River that would be ideal for it.

XML entry costs can be prohibitive, but the Concept to Pitch workshop next
Friday is free and could lead to someone else covering your entry costs for
XML (eg. if you are recruited to a team with funds). If you are at all
interested in XMediaLab and can spare a day, I think it's worth registering
for the workshop next week.

In regards to Let's Make Games Inc.'s activities, we applied for and were
awarded a ScreenWest education grant towards an Indie Games Marketing
workshop we will be running in late April. We've also discussed internally
the idea of a conference/workshop (3 day game jam?) down south later in the
year, which we may pursue depending on how tickets sales for the marketing
workshop go.

The beef I have with XML is the entry cost and the transmedia aspect of it.
Nick, Minh and Anthony - message to you; start our own version of this. The
entrants give these guys $1000 minimum to be a part of it. Surely LMG can
muster up some international mentors for less than that. It costs too much
to take the gamble. If you pay the $1000 you are not guaranteed of a
winning / money making project - I think LMG can change that around. Let's
call it the "Young Upstart" and local businesses can seed fund it - hell
I'll chuck in for this.

I think "Young Upstart" should fund pure games, pure films and hybrids.
Most importantly it should provide mentorship at a reasonable price that
will take the entrants places and not leave them with empty pockets.
